Not too many neighborhoods in Pasadena have spectacular views like the Kinneloa area. Over six years ago I remember my first time at a Kinneloa Mesa house. The pool, spa and wet bar overlooked the San Gabriel Valley. On that clear day we could see all the way to Palos Verdes.
Have you ever wondered how Kinneloa was named? A world traveler by the name of Abbot Kinney decided to move to Southern California in 1880. Kinney had a passion for planning and building communities. One of his well-known accomplishments was his planning and building of the city by the sea (Venica, CA), which he built after discovering Kinneloa Mesa. In 1980 when visiting the Pasadena area Kinney found the right place to build his ranch. He referred to it as "The mecca of all my hopes." On the hill he build his two story home, cleared out the brush and built an irrigation system. The hill became referred to as "Kinneloa," which means "Kinney's hill" in Hawaiian. Today we can it Kinneloa Mesa. |
